A Bit About Me
Bekah Batot has a proven record of leadership and service. A lifelong Harlingen resident, product of Harlingen schools with two children in the district, she is deeply invested in the future of local schools. As an attorney, she spent seven years at legal aid, primarily representing victims of domestic violence across the Rio Grande Valley. She continued this work in her private practice and through nine years of board service with the Family Crisis Center, our local domestic violence shelter, demonstrating her commitment to protecting and empowering families. She is currently the Compliance and Privacy Officer for Valley Baptist Health System. In this role, she is responsible for ensuring staff and medical staff adhere to policy and federal, state and local regulations.
Bekah has also served as president of the Junior League of Harlingen and currently chairs the board of the Legacy Foundation, which provides support for organizations across the Valley. In her current role at the hospital, she collaborates with community stakeholders to develop programs that provide critical services for mental health, sexual assault, and child abuse victims.
In addition to her legal and auditing background, through her extensive board service, she has years of experience in board governance and budget oversight with budgets exceeding that of the school district.
As a parent, Bekah understands the challenges and opportunities facing Harlingen schools. She is committed to fostering an environment where all students receive a high-quality education, teachers are supported, and families are engaged in the learning process.
Bekah prioritizes strengthening academic programs through efficient and effective implementation and oversight, ensuring school safety, expanding mental health resources, and increasing transparency. With a passion for our community and a proven track record of leadership, she is ready to serve and make a lasting impact on Harlingen’s schools.
